The SFJ6 project, located in the heart of the Vallecas district in Madrid, presents an innovative approach to affordable housing, addressing both urban and personal living scales. The 102 homes are designed to make the most of compact spaces without sacrificing residents’ quality of life, offering cross-ventilation, open views, and connections to the outdoors through balconies and terraces. The building’s architecture supports this outdoor connection, fostering interaction between interior living spaces and the surrounding urban environment.

At street level, SFJ6 creates a smooth integration between the city and the building, offering ground-floor spaces that enhance urban diversity and revitalize the local area. Designed as a folded structure, the building adapts to neighboring constructions and the complex topography, creating various points of visual and physical connection with the environment, bringing new energy to the neighborhood. Additionally, the variation in building height and the setback of the top two floors add a dynamic element to the urban landscape, while large windows minimize the building’s perceived size, resulting in a more welcoming, human-scale appearance.

In the common areas, the project promotes social interaction through the inclusion of greenery and a thoughtful selection of materials. The use of wood, earthy plasters, and traditional ceramics, contrasted with lush nature, creates a warm, inviting atmosphere, transforming these spaces into more than just walkways. This approach fosters a rich sensory experience, giving residents a stronger sense of belonging.

The result is an environment where materiality contributes to a rich and immersive sensorial experience, promoting a sense of belonging among residents.

The natural wood ceilings by Parklex Prodema, featured in the entrance halls and exterior walkways, further enhance the warm atmosphere. The wood, also used in the horizontal facade of the common areas, is a key visual element, especially in the gallery ceilings where it draws the eye upwards. The Parklex Prodema panels meet high standards for durability and resistance, ensuring both technical and aesthetic excellence, in line with the project’s focus on sustainable and functional design.
