The architects from Hardel Le Bihan and HGA-Hubert Godet have developed an architectural ensemble for the Orange group headquarters that respects the heritage of Lyon’s Part-Dieu district. The new north and south wings embrace the existing Lacassagne telephone exchange, an iconic building designed in 1972 by André Gutton and protected as a “Bâtiment de France” for its historical significance. The folded volumes are connected to the central building through walkways and a spacious glass atrium. The ensemble is unified by the pattern of the façades, which echoes the exoskeleton of the former industrial building, while the sloping roof reveals and frames views to and from the urban surroundings. In the interior spaces, designed with user participation, comfort is enhanced by Parklex Prodema natural timber flooring and panelling, highly resistant to wear and abrasion.
